You can never swim in the same ocean twice.
A curious proverb I admit. I’ve always considered it to mean that the conditions and the ocean has already changed once I hit the waves the next time.
I love ice swimming. The water is at its freezing point and it always thrills me to dip in. But that hasn’t been the case always.
The first time I did it, it felt terrible. I screamed and ran as fast as I could back to the sauna.
So the water and the conditions are not the only thing changed. My relationship with the water is different too. It’s what we do in the dark…
Repetition is truly the mother of all learning.
