Do what works with what you’ve got

Do you have an infinite amount of time and money at your disposal?

I don’t. Never had. Yet, I still tend to dream of an ideal world for my professional work as a software tester.

In my vision, our profession, software testing, is respected. We’d be the rock starts of development and we’d always get to work our magic early and enough. Wouldn’t it be wonderful?

Now I percieve a problem there. In my mind, I live with ideals while the reality is very different. Deadlines hammer on and all resorces from time to money come scarce.

…The problem that I see and feel is the gap between my ideals and the reality.

It’s something that Einstein said long ago that finally put my mind at rest.

A man should look for what is, and not for what he thinks should be.

The way to mastery is not to look at the gap of problems beween ideals and reality. It’s not to complain in an attempt to change the world.

The world won’t ask for your consent anyways, so there isn’t much more to do. It instantly becomes easier to breathe when you accept the world as it already is.

Look for what is. Then do what works with what you’ve got.
